Character
Character Name: Piper Halliwell
Fandom: Charmed (Wikipedia, IMDb, Charmed Wiki, TV.com, Piper Halliwell on the Charmed Wiki, Piper Halliwell's Detailed History on the Charmed Wiki)
Timeline: Just before her first pregnancy
Crimes: Public Mischief, Destruction of Public Property, Civil Disobedience, Noise Ordinance Violations, Speeding, Driving Recklessly, Breaking and Entering, Parking Illegally, Various Other Moving and Traffic Violations, Evading Law Enforcement, Impersonating Others, Identity Theft, Murder, Interference with the Flow of Time, Altering History, Falsification of Official Records, Tampering with Evidence, Tampering with Crime Scenes, Bribery, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Witholding Evidence, Perjury, Contempt of Court, Robbery, Stealing Evidence, Indecent Exposure, Reckless Endangerment (some of these are future crimes for her point in canon)
Personality: Piper is very no-nonsense, down-to-earth, and practical in her thoughts and approach to life. She wants more than anything to have a normal life away from witchcraft, but she accepts her responsibilities as a Charmed One with a high level of maturity once she understands what it means. She is the peacekeeper between her free-spirited younger sister Phoebe and her headstrong older sister Prue. Her family means everything to her, and, when Grams dies, Piper does her best to hold the two other sisters together while all they wanted to do was go their own ways. Their mother once called Piper "the heart of the family". Nothing is more important to her than that bond.
When Prue is killed, Piper goes through a severe set of angry, vengeful emotions that are sought out and exploited by the Furies. It's through her long-lost sister Paige that she is able to face her feelings about Prue, her anger, her loss, everything to return to being human again. She didn't want to accept Paige at first because it meant accepting that Prue was gone, but Paige's help in dealing with all of it brought Piper around to considering her a true Halliwell sister. Once Piper agrees to accept Paige into the family, she quickly becomes watchful of her, strictly instructing her on various aspects of witchcraft and making sure she can defend herself and stand up to the demons they will inevitably fight together. She does eventually back off as she watches Paige grow, learning that she needs to trust her sisters to handle things on their own. Her reluctance to do so clearly a throwback to Prue's death.
Piper's main wish in life is to be the executive chef at her own restaurant. When we first see her, she is a bank teller. She works this job in order to make sure she has health benefits to care for her ailing grandmother. She and Prue still live at home with their grandmother while Phoebe is out and traveling around, finding herself and getting into trouble. When Grams dies, Piper decides to follow her dream and goes into the restaurant business as a manager for the restaurant Quake. Her practicality and down-to-earth approach make the restaurant a success, but her hard work ethic lands her in a position that her boss exploits. He has her work crazy hours and pays her very little. Yet, Piper takes it, explaining it away with the idea that she needs to work her way up the ladder, start at the bottom, etc etc. She gets trampled by the head chef when he tries to throw away an entire set of expensive knives to replace them with a different set that he expects the restaurant to pay for. Finally fed up, and under the influence of an overzealous truth spell, she spills her feelings to her boss, tells off the chef, and ends up with an assistant, better pay, and more respect for standing her ground. Feeling better about things, she stays with Quake a little while longer before finally quitting to find her own place.
Again, practicality takes over, and instead of starting a restaurant, Piper decides to build up capital by opening a night club. She gets a liquor license, hires some local bands, and slowly works her way up to being very successful and popular. The club also ends up becoming a huge source of income for the sisters, and Piper runs it for quite a few years. Also, by having her own place, Piper finds that it makes things easier for her in running about fighting demons and vanquishing evil as a Charmed One. She has no boss to answer to when she suddenly has to run off without being able to explain why.
Which is another part of Piper's personality. She's very secretive about her witchy heritage. It is paramount that it be kept under wraps. A few times, the sisters have been exposed, and each time it leads to utter disaster, including the incident around Prue's death. They learned the horrible way that having their secret exposed means horrible things. Piper is the first one to also admonish her sisters about using their powers for personal gain. Another taboo of being a good witch. Personal gain can result in losing ones powers, as Phoebe later learns personally. And, a witch can be turned evil by having them kill either another good witch or an innocent. Piper is almost turned evil, but not irrevocably. She doesn't make the kill. She does, however, use the situation to her advantage in that she's able to get to the evil underworld to rescue Prue. Once that happens, she's returned to being good. Though, not without the horrible realization that she almost killed Leo, her Whitelighter and husband.
Piper's respect for the rules, though, only goes so far. Such as with Leo. Witches and Whitelighters are forbidden to be together. However, she and Leo fall in love, and challenge the establishment. Stubborn about making things work, she and Leo do eventually win out, forcing the Elders to see that they're meant to be together. Leo joins the list of people Piper loves and will do anything for and do anything to protect. She loves him fiercely, and, despite difficult times and rocky points in their relationship, things always do work out in the end because she and Leo never truly give up on each other.
Even before she actually becomes a mother, Piper is very much the motherly type. She enjoys taking care of others, cooking for people other than herself, and cleaning. She takes the responsibility of caring for their innocents very seriously, especially child innocents like Tyler, who was being hunted by the Source of All Evil. Tyler was a young boy, and her motherly instincts came full force when he was almost completely captured and turned into an evil bodyguard, enabling her to use only her powers without the power of three to smash through a forcefield protected gate to save him. Piper is stronger when there is someone to protect. Her powers are also heavily affected by her emotions and can go a little haywire if she's upset or confused, but also get much stronger when she can focus strong feelings into them, such as the desire to protect or anger.
Abilities: Piper has basic witch powers such as casting spells, making potions, and scrying.
In the Charmed universe, witches also have special powers that are specific to them. Piper's powers affect molecules in that she can slow them down (freezing) or speed them up (and make them explode) and she focuses her ability through her hands. At the point in canon that Piper is from, she is capable of isolating her power of 'freezing' to one person or widening it to an entire building/city block. Her aim with her ability to explode things is quite accurate and she is able to explode and freeze (or vice versa) in quick succession to prevent messes or force demons into giving up information. She can also freeze a person and then unfreeze just their head so that communication and thought are still possible, but escape is not. Her powers continue to evolve throughout canon (after the point I will be playing her from) in that she is able to control her exploding power to just setting things on fire or melting them, or using her explosions with proper aim and timing to deflect incoming attacks such as fireballs or plasma orbs.
As a Charmed One, Piper has access to the Power of Three, which is the ability to combine her power with that of two other witches (more effectively, those of her bloodline, or most effectively, her sisters) to enhance all of her witch powers such as spell casting. This also gives her a high resistance to attacks, and can create barriers to block such things as fireballs and plasma orbs fired at them. However, this is only accessible when there are two other witches from her world present to use it.
Also, as a witch, Piper has a magical essence which makes her an excellent conduit for any transformations to other magical beings. She has been turned into and power swapped with several throughout canon, including a Wendigo, a Valkyrie, a Greek goddess, a Hindu goddess, a Fury, and even an Angel of Death. Most often, these transformations happen outside of Piper's control through someone else's influence. The only change in Piper's status to remain permanent other than becoming a Charmed One is when she becomes the Lady of the Lake, Guardian of Excalibur, due to her son, Wyatt, being next wieldor of Exacalibur (and the second coming of King Arthur), but that happens after the point in canon from which she will arrive in Marina.
Multifandom Test: Anyone who claims they're from another world is going to be met with either disbelief or a possible attempt to vanquish them, depending on how jumpy Piper's feeling. However, she'd probably eventually come around. I could see her developing a mutual respect for Eowyn of Lord of the Rings. Eowyn is a strong woman, trained to fight and defend herself, not afraid to speak her mind, and, in a lot of ways, similar to Piper about those things. They both love deeply when they find it, and their family is important to them. Piper would admire Eowyn's push against the expectations of society for her to stay back and rule from the throne instead of taking her place where she wants to, on the battlefield with those who would fight for her. She could also commiserate with her about loss in the family and the death of loved ones, as well as having events in their lives change everything they knew and everything they thought would be in their respective futures. Eowyn could appreciate Piper's ability to be a working mother, and to find love and have a family despite on-going strife. She would admire Piper's ability to keep her family together, as Theoden and Eomer were also very important in Eowyn's life.
Action post sample: [Piper was actually rather fascinated with the whole place. It was something like nothing she'd seen before, really. At least, not outside of a sci-fi movie. She was busy wandering and exploring, taking in her surroundings. Part of it was to find out more, part of it was to find a way home, part of it was to learn about people around her. She was nervous, definitely, but she was doing her best not to let it show. She even had her hands in her pockets for now. She didn't want to accidentally freeze anyone, or blow them up. This kind of situation was pretty awkward, so, she was definitely nervous enough that her powers might just go off a little funny.
Still, she was scared. Deep down, she was very, very scared. Her sisters would try to find her, right? They'd know that the double sent to replace her was fake. They had to. Well, maybe not Paige so much, but Leo would know. She clenched her hands tightly into fists, still in her pockets. They had to. But, would they know what to do? She didn't even know what to do, yet. And there was no Book of Shadows for her to look at and figure it out. Though, she was wondering if this was even magical or demonic in nature to even be in the Book of Shadows. As it was, her initial calls for Leo hadn't worked. He hadn't heard her. And, on her second try at calling for help, Paige hadn't heard her either.]
I'm screwed... aren't I? [She finally pulled one hand out of her pocket and rubbed her face. She wasn't going to cry. She wouldn't let herself. Not, yet, anyway.] No. I'm not. I'm going to get home. Things will be fine. I just have to remember that. They'll find me. They always do.
[She took a deep breath, picked her head up, and stalked over to where she saw this 'kiosk' labeled on the map. It was time to ask some questions.]
Network post sample: This is on, right? Oh... there it goes.
Alright, listen up. I haven't got all day, so I want answers. I can't seem to call my husband or my sister, so I need to know what's going on with this place. And now. A nightclub doesn't run itself, you know.
So. First things first. I get that we're in some prison under the sea. Right. [As weird as that was, really... she waved it off with a roll of her eyes.] What's important here is that I find out how I can... pay for these 'crimes' or whatever this is all about so I can serve my sentence and go home. I've got friends in strong places with the law, so don't make me start dropping names. [Though, she was kind of reluctant to ask Daryl yet again to help her out of what was looking to be a little supernatural, and Cole was... well, that was an awkward situation right there.]
Who's in charge? And who do I talk to here about a trial and proper representation? I want at least a hearing, got it?
